Auto PC based on windows automotive includes the following required hardware. Because each original equipment manufacturer (OEM) determines hardware design, device specifications vary.

A 60 MIPS or higher CPU

Interacting with a Vehicle Computer

The vehicle I/O API includes methods used to obtain diagnostic and maintenance data. You can write applications that retrieve and analyze this data and notify the vehicle driver of a mechanical malfunction or required maintenance. The vehicle I/O API enables you to control vehicle operations, such as locking and unlocking doors. You can also display data obtained from a vehicle computer or engine control unit to aide the driver to make driving decisions, for example, notifying the driver when to shift for optimal fuel efficiency or optimal acceleration. The following sections discuss the hardware and vehicle I/O API that enable such communication.

An Auto PC is equipped with a universal serial bus (USB) connected to a vehicle’s on-board diagnostic level II (OBD II) port by means of hardware known as a vehicle bus bridge. These hardware connections establish data flow between the vehicle on-board computer and an Auto PC.

Implementing Speech
Microsoft® Windows® CE for the Auto PC includes speech recognition and text-to-speech (TTS) technologies. These technologies enable an Auto PC to respond to user-spoken commands and provide the user verbal feedback. The voice-controlled user interface (UI) enables hands-free, eyes-free Auto PC operation.

Speech recognition resolves user-spoken commands into a control for your application. Windows CE for the Auto PC uses discrete speech recognition, which recognizes words delineated by pauses.

TTS resolves text into synthesized speech. An Auto PC can read text using the TTS algorithms to determine phrasing, or you can adjust the phrasing that an Auto PC uses with control codes.

Speech recognition and TTS are exposed on an Auto PC through the Speech API (SAPI), which enables you to implement these technologies in your application. SAPI facilitates communication between your application and a speech recognition engine. Windows CE for the Auto PC uses a subset of SAPI for discrete speech recognition. It also adds interfaces that extend the SAPI features available for use in an automobile.

Managing Power
Managing power on an Auto PC is complex, due to several factors:

Because an Auto PC continually draws current from the vehicle battery, the battery may discharge if the vehicle is unused for an extended time.
Voltage normally drops when a vehicle starts.
A vehicle battery may fail or be disconnected.
To manage power successfully under these conditions, an Auto PC uses two power sources: the vehicle battery and a backup battery. The vehicle battery operates an Auto PC on a regular basis. A backup battery provides enough power for an Auto PC to shift to a power off state and to maintain the contents of dynamic RAM (DRAM) in that state. A backup battery is not intended to operate an Auto PC when the vehicle battery is in a low power state, and can only support the normal state of an Auto PC for a short period of time while the backup battery shifts an Auto PC to a power off state.

Auto PC is an in-vehicle information and entertainment system that runs the Microsoft® Windows® CE operating system. An Auto PC provides a single, integrated platform that supports entertainment and information management. Microsoft® Windows® CE for the Auto PC includes extensions that support features specific to an Auto PC, such as positioning and navigation.

Cu alte cuvinte ofera un set de APIs destul de complet pentru a putea implementa un soft carPC fara a avea alta bataie de cap legata de hardware, samd...ma refer la mine care nu m-as baga combinatii de N luate cate K pana ar iesi fumul din bord.

Nu am un astfel de device, nu am rulat decat niste sample-uri in emulator care bineinteles nu este suficient si se mai si blocheaza insa pe viitor voi mai vedea.
